[ q u i e t a n d h e s i t a n t ]
Arizona is quiet by nature, always has been, she watches people rather than talking to them, but it’s because she knows she can probably figure out more truth than lies if there’s no physical contact. She isn’t afraid of people, or even dislike them, she just doesn’t like getting lied to. Which is why she’s hesitant to grow close to anyone. But, when she does get close to someone, you’re stuck with her for life. She isn’t afraid to tell you something is wrong, and she will tell you something that you truly don’t want to hear, but, if it’s for your own good, she’ll tell you without a second look.
&&. Stick your head in the present and get it out of the past
Arizona hates dwelling on the past, she hates hers, so she likes to try to just live for the moment. As long as she has something to look forward to, she can be in the most perky mood, even at a party or something of the sort, she’ll be right there with her friends having a great time, but, if someone mentions something that hits too close to home, especially if they don’t know her past, thusly not realizing what they said, she locks herself in her head for a little bit, just trying to get out of her memories. The only part of her past that she’ll dwell on is that she thinks of her brother and sister a lot, seeing as she goes to boarding school in Texas, she never really gets to see them, so she flies down to see them whenever she gets the chance.

history:
The French country-side seemed to fold to fit the needs of the vineyard where Jace Cassaway looked over his little sister. She was two, he was five, they would spend their days running all through the forests that fenced in the property and help their father and mother with the vineyard. Arizona seemed to be everywhere at once, she would hang out in the forest during the mornings, just relaxing, and be in the vineyard during the day, and be right back in the forest by nightfall. She didn’t like being inside, it was just…strange. But Jace was always there with her, watching out for her.
Two months after Jace turned nine, their mother, Lynn, added a new member to the family, a little sister for Arizona, Kris. She was quiet, but, definitely fit into the family. But, it was the year that Kris was born, that their mother came down with some rare form of Leukemia, she was flown over seas to the states, but, she didn’t make it back. Jace and Arizona took it the hardest, but, Arizona tried to put on a smile for her father and brother, helping both of them make it through. But, whenever Jace and Arizona would be coming back from school, she would always zone out, into her own little world, so, and the first of Jace’s old jokes to return, was the nickname `Zona. He saw it as both a short of her name, and a fitting nickname due to her habit .
`Zona’s fifth grade summer, her father brought home a lady friend, or at least, that was all it started out as. She didn’t like kids, to say the least, but, she put on a fake smile for their father and by the first semester’s close, they had a new ‘mommy’. `Zona spent more and more time out in the forest, avoiding the house and the sneers from her step-mother, but Jace was forced to stay around the house or help their father. It was then that Arizona realized something was different about her, all the time she spent in the forest, she spent listening and observing. She noticed how she knew when some creature was getting closer to her, thinking about coming up to her, and soon, she could do the same with humans.
The same winter, she associated herself with a young family of foxes, the female fox was a beautiful red colour, pure russet, the father on the other hand was midnight black. She sat in the roots of a tree long enough that eventually, she would be greeted whenever she went near the forest by the glint of a fox eye. Occasionally, if she was in a particularly sour mood, the female fox would even come up and let her pet her.
`Zona put up with her father’s wife until she told him about her ‘ability’, she begged him not to tell Corin, but, he ended up telling her, for all their sakes. Corin, of course, over reacted, called her a freak, and set outrageous demands upon her. She had to be home and in her room by seven, if she was late, no dinner. Blah blah blah. Jace was furious, he demanded that their father do something, but, he just looked away and would make some comment about Jace needing to watch over Kris and Arizona. Jace was `Zona’s one strong hold.
When `Zona was in the eighth grade, she was late getting home one night, she’d been out in the vineyard and had lost track of time, Corin locked her in her room and threatened Jace that if he went near the door, he’d meet the same punishment. Arizona was actually afraid, not really for her safety, but for Kris’ and Jace’s. That night, Jace got into a fight with both Corin and their father. He threatened them both, saying that he would move out and take both Kris and `Zona with him. She could hear his shouts despite the fact that she was on another wing of their house and on another floor. She couldn’t stand it, she couldn’t stand listening to both, his screams, and the thoughts of the others. She didn’t like the knowledge that her father was trying to figure out a restraint method, and Corin was thinking about slamming a vase over his head.
She escaped. She slipped out of the window, down a vine and into the night, making sure that Jace saw her at least slightly. She ran into the forest on the farthest side of the vineyard, the one where the fox family lived. By the time she collapsed, she had yet to see the foxes, but at least the shouts had stopped. Jace found her crying, but, in her arms, she was holding a little baby fox, it’s fur russet, but with a black hue. She didn’t even turn around to know that it was Jace, she just fell into his hug. He told her that as long as she and Kris were here, he would be, no matter how old he got.
She wanted to thank Jace, tell him that she’d be here until Kris could move out, but, instead she told him that she wasn’t going to be around much longer. She had found a school, a highschool, known for their band and for accepting only students with special abilities. She fit into that easily. And, she just had to get her father to pay the check, it wouldn’t be that difficult, seeing as the school was free, she just needed the plane ticket to Texas.
Two months later, she was on her way to a school in Texas, though yes, it was a school for the 'gifted' she wasn't really something totally unique, sure, she could tell what people were about to do, but, it wasn't on command. She just wanted to get away from France. But, Corin didn't want her coming back home, she figured that since it wasn't totally normal, she was a freak. She told her that she needed to stay away, all behind her father's back. So, `zona did some more digging. She soon found a camp for the arts. Camp Hope, the title alone was enough for her. And soon, the drummer was enrolled at the camp for the summers, and the school for the school years. But, whenever she could, she'd try to get in touch with her siblings, just wanting to hear their voices.

{Characters involved - Tuna Waters, Sky Timber, `zona Cassaway. Location, previously mentioned school...}
Blonde hair hung down to the small of her back, the ends looked as though they'd been dipped in red though, as she'd planned. She made her way, like a ghost, across the campus, the bells had rung over half an hour ago, stupid math, she would ditch that without a second thought at the matter. She went once a week, enough time to learn the material and get the hell out. But, today, she'd just fallen asleep in the outer fringes of the campus, inside the buildings, but, not really where anyone could find her. She'd needed a chance to relax and calm down. Some guy had been mocking her about France, mocking her history, snatched her letter to Jace and everything. She'd knocked the guy out after kicking him into a cement bench and making him flip over it. Not many pissed her off that much, but he'd come pretty close.[/size]
Her long strides were purposeful, she'd felt them; Sky and Tuna, they were talking about her, she'd even felt Tuna probing her mind. But that had been when she'd been furious, barriers had blocked all minds from her's only a few minutes ago. Now, she could see the band hall, her stride picked up, almost to a jog, she wanted to be up in the tower. Nodding once to the band directors, she headed for the drum room, she wouldn't look out of place there, she hung out there more than often enough. Making her way through the usual motions to get up to the tower, she made her way up, towards the balcony that was her destination.
So what's the idea this time, is some way we haven't tried to get 'Zona out of class? Arizona Cassaway rolled her green eyes, she was still around the corner, no doubt Sky knew of her presence. Well, you tried tricking the fire alarm last class...so, how about a text message? She laughed, revealing herself with a smile on her face. Besides, you two gave me a killer headache...all the talking and plotting. Arg. Her voice held the hints of her former accent, but, most of it had been covered up after hanging out with Sky and Tuna for so long.
anything else? Ok, I didn't go into much detail about the whole 'being able to know what someone is thinking about doing', so, if you'd like, I can tell you all about it. It is real, it's not some super power or anything. Things like that do happen in every day life...just not often. =]
